The Fifth International Specialized Congress and Second International Congress for Hospital Build and Facility Management
has opened on 9 December 2018 at Razi International Conference Center, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. Mr. Shahqadami, Scientific Secretary of the congress, Mr. Siamak Moghaddam, Chief of the UN-Habitat Tehran Office, Mr. Aqajani, President of the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and Head of the Congress, Mr. Sadeghi Rad, Deputy- General of Planning and Control of the Social Security Organization, Mr. Shahriari, Secretary-General of the Salamat Charity and chairman of the Medical Council of the Islamic Consultative Assembly attended and gave a speech at the opening ceremony. This two-day congress will proceed till 10 December 2018.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Siamak Moghaddam, Chief of UN-Habitat Tehran Office thanked the organizers of the congress especially the Ministry of Health and Medical Education for cooperating with UN-Habitat and introduced the activities of the this office in the area of natural disaster and man-made hazard mitigation. He emphasized the importance of the role of hospitals, schools and other public and governmental buildings in natural and man-made disasters and referred to the experiences of Japan and Turkey in the retrofitting of hospitals and schools. He added that we need to retrofit and improve the resilience of hospitals in the country. Mr. Siamak Moghaddam provided a brief introduction on the project “Inventory, Earthquake and Multi-Hazard Performance Evaluation of Existing Health Facilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran” (BEHTAB) and its role in co-operation with the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in order to set up a process of retrofitting and increasing the resilience of hospitals and to formulate a long-term investment program.
The purpose of this congress is to integrate and coordinate between all related organizations and institutes active in the field of hospital build and facility management in the levels of needs assessment; designing, consultation; approval; contracting; implementation; supervision and operation in order for increasing the efficiency of sources and attracting the public cooperation as well as building and equipping new hospital equipment based on international and national standards and better servicing to the patients.
Thousands of experts and managers of the country’s health sector will be present at this congress and UN-Habitat Tehran Office will present panels on “Health System Reform: comparison of various successful cases”, “Strategies for Design and Retrofitting of Safe Hospitals”, “Improving
Multi Hazard Resilience of Hospitals” and “Improving Multi Hazard Resilience of Hospitals: Applicable Methodologies” On the first day and the second day of this congress. In this congress, the project for “Inventory, Earthquake and Multi-Hazard Performance Evaluation of Existing Health Facilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran” (BEHTAB), which is being implemented by the United Nations Human Settlements Program and the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Funded by the government of Japan, will be presented and its achievements, findings and methodology will be discussed.
